Alabama General Election Flash Poll – 10/16/14

Gov. Bentley and the Lottery Are Doing Well in Alabama

On October 16, 2014, Cygnal, a full-service campaign, research, and communications firm, released a Flash Poll for the statewide general election to be held in Alabama on November 4, 2014. The survey has a statistical margin of error of 3.45%.

According to the survey, Republican Governor Bentley has a comfortable lead of more than 20pts against Democrat Parker Griffith. Republican Lt. Governor Kay Ivey also leads her Democrat challenger, as do all the other Republican statewide candidates.

Despite defeating a lottery soundly in 1999, Alabama voters now seem more willing to support a lottery with 66% of respondents stating they would vote for one today.

The turnout demographics for 2014 are tracking to be nearly identical to 2010. Much can still happen over the next two weeks to change these results, but it would be surprising to see a statewide Republican candidate lose at this point. Remember, a poll is just a snapshot in time.
