AL-01 Primary Flash Poll – 09/19/13

Byrne Leads; Fincher, Young, Hillyer or Griffith Could Make Runoff

On September 19, 2013, Cygnal, a full-service campaign and communications firm, released a Flash Poll for the Alabama Congressional District 1 Republican Primary special election to be held on September 24, 2013. The survey has a statistical margin of error of 3.6%.

According to the survey, Bradley Byrne holds a strong lead with 34% followed by Chad Fincher at 14.9%, Dean Young at 12.1%, Quin Hillyer at 9.1% and Wells Griffith at 8.3%.  Based on these figures, Byrne is a shoe-in to make the runoff. Fincher has the greatest likelihood of being in the runoff with Byrne, but Young, Hillyer, and Griffith could also potentially be in the runoff.

Based on the “second choice” question, voters of those candidates who do not make it to a potential runoff strongly indicate they would vote for Byrne should a runoff occur.  As with any special election, turnout will be key in deciding who the runoff candidate will be.
